I can't say that I agree with everything Good proposes in this book, but he does raise some interesting possibilities about UFOs. Good is not claiming that UFOs are extraterrestrial, but simply that they do exist and that the governments of the world have been hiding evidence of this fact. His study is exhaustive but would still be worth reading just to examine the facsimile copies of confidential and secret documents from the U.S., Canada, and Europe, as well as the controversial MJ-12 documents.

Good Compendium of Official Secrecy

Timothy Good's 1988 ABOVE TOP SECRET is not a quick easy read, but it offers an unmatched pile of information for the skeptic. Nearly every researcher who has studied the UFO phenomenon has concluded that they are space craft operated by extraterrestrial biological entities, and Good is no exception.

Good takes a special interest in what governments other than the USA are doing about the problem. He catalogues several instances where a government's rheteric is in conflict with its actions. There is an especially good and lengthy appendix with document after document from the world's governments, proving that despite their denials, they do take UFO sightings seriously.

As a British investigator, Good details the intelligence services of the UK, and how they liason with those of America and also the KGB. Some of the best information lies in the exposure of secret government organizations and how they liason with ech other. You can almost create an org chart to follow the flow of information from the moment a witness makes his frantic phone call to the local authorities.

Some of the individual sighting reports can safely be skipped, but as you get deeper into the report, you begin getting to the real meat of what makes this book valuable. Knock off a star for overlong and somewhat dry, and you are left with a four-star must read for the UFO buff.

This book is a superb introduction to UFOlogy

This book is a great introduction to UFOlogy. If someone were only to have one book on the subject, this would be the one to buy. Tim Good's book has an enormous number of incidents, recounted in detail. This is the strength of the book and what makes it so valuable, the sheer comprehensiveness of it. The only weaknesses in this ambitious work are its somewhat obscure system of organization of the data, and the inclusion of material which has since been proven to be false, such as the interview with the purported former USAF fighter pilot who claimed that there was a special unit tasked to intercept and photograph UFOs in the 1950's. While there may have been such a unit, this poor fellow (identified with a pseudonym under his photograph in Good's book) has since confessed (after investigation revealed) that he was never a flight officer in the Air Force and never participated in such an interception unit, as detailed in the most recent edition of UFO Magazine on-line. Good also seems insufficiently skeptical of certain UFO shibboleths, such as the Majestic-12 documents which "just showed up" in L.A. film producer Jaimie Shindera's mail box one day. These and other failures to probe deeply enough into the material mar an otherwise impressive compendium of material. These flaws notwithstanding, this is an entertaining and informative book which I highly recommend to anyone with an interest in this admittedly odd area of human experience.

One of the best on this subject

I would recommend this book to anyone interested in the subject of UFOs and particularly for open-minded people who are undecided about it. It's great strength is it's comprehensive review of reports from all over the world (too often these type of books only deal with US or local incidents).It easily refutes 3 scepticisms about the UFO phenomena:
1.That only crazies are eyewitnesses.

2.That military/intelligence forces around the world have investigated the phenomenon and found that there is nothing to it.

3.That governments are not hiding anything.

Good tries to keep his feet on the ground (which is very diifficult in the UFO community!). Some of his content may well turn out to be inaccurate (eg.the MJ12 documents are most likely faked)

but he is willing to concede doubts where they legitimately exist.

The interviews with government and military officials/pilots etc are most interesting. For Australian readers there is a full transcript of the 1978 Valentich-air traffic control conversation just before his tragic disappearence.

After reading this book, the open minded reader should be convinced that something very strange indeed is happening in our skies, but Good is not presumptuous enough to pretend that he has the answers.

I passed the NCLEX on my first try with the Rayfield/Manning Review!

I recommend this book to all nursing students!

Yes, some of the illustrations are a bit far-fetched... however, the pictures REALLY stick with you. While I was taking the NCLEX, I had a question on SIADH and immediately the image of Soggy Sid popped into my head and I was able to answer the question quickly and correctly. The same goes with the Anticholinergic Medication image (now THAT one will be with me for life!).

You may not remember what each letter in the pneumonic stands for... but you'll remember the premise of the disease process, the basic patho and most importantly, the nursing intervention, simply by remembering what the picture looks like and what the person is doing!

example: cushy carl is holding a bag of potato chips and twinkies because people with cushings have elevated sodium and glucose!

I recommend that anyone who buys this book to color in the pages of the book when you aren't studying (example: if you're just watching tv while taking a break from studying, color while you're doing that! or while your kids are coloring in their coloring books, you can color too!) I colored my Soggy Sid in a yellow rain coat, cushy carl is in purple and I will always remember that.

The main thing thats gonna help you pass are doing as many questions as you can while reviewing the main points about diseases... and when you're reviewing the questions, its nice to have a picture in your head of what to look for/expect!

Good if you are a visual learner

This book is full of visual ways to remember nursing knowledge, and contains cartoon-like illustrations and pneumonic devices as a way to reinforce and remember various medical conditions, drugs, etc. It is a good way to simplify and streamline information if you learn visually. I would recommend it for NCLEX preparation, and while it helped me feel more confident and prepared for the test, I don't really think it ultimately made a difference in me passing the exam.

Such an interesting read

I had no idea what squirting was until I was with a partner who was able to accomplish this (every time) about five years. I was so enthralled with it that I immediately looked up how it's done and was able to do this myself pretty quickly. I think that there are a lot of misconceptions about female ejaculation and author R. Leigh has written another great book that takes a look at squirting by giving others a chance to tell their stories. After a bit of fascinating background, there are stories from five different women here who are able to do this and they are varied and all quite interesting. A great read.

Great instructional book, but not necessarily for beginners

Teach Yourself Bluegrass Mandolin is a great instructional guide for mandolin. It is clearly written and provides both melody and solo parts for a number of traditional bluegrass tunes. The CD that accompanies it is an added bonus for those that like to hear exactly how each tune is supposed to sound. However, if you are picking up a mandolin for the first time with no previous experience playing a stringed instrument this book may leave you frustrated. I had a few years of experince playing guitar so the switch wasn't too difficult. However, I know that I was starting for the first time I would be hard pressed to play many of the songs in this book. The tunes on the CD are played quite fast, especially for beginners. If you are looking for a beginners guide I would pick something a little easier. But once you've built up your dexerity and you're ready to move up I would recommend this book.

Great book for the beginner mandolin player

This is a great book for anyone trying to learn how to play the mandolin. It contains several good songs, tons of good advice on technique, and a cd to refer to when written descriptions just won't get the job done (just try to describe "chunking" to someone who has never heard it before).
The best part of this book is how it describes a technique and then immediately teaches you a song or two that use that technique. I find this helps to keep the learning process fun and exciting. It also give you a lot of material to show off to your friends.

Nice book, great music. The music on the CD is great. But if you are a beginner, this is not the place to begin. Although it is fun to listen to, it is way too fast and way too difficult for a beginner.

Dr. Naresh K. Malhotra is Regents' Professor (Highest Academic Rank in the University System of Georgia), College of Management, Georgia Institute of Technology. He is listed in Marquis "Who's Who in America" continuously since 51st Edition 1997, and in "Who's Who in the World" since 2000. He received the prestigious Academy of Marketing Science CUTCO/Vector Distinguished Marketing Educator Award in 2005 In an article by Wheatley and Wilson (1987 AMA Educators' Proceedings), Professor Malhotra was ranked number one in the country based on articles published in the "Journal of Marketing Research" during 1980-1985. He also holds the all-time record for the maximum number of publications in the "Journal of Health Care Marketing," He is ranked number one based on publications in the "Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science" (JAMS) since its inception through Volume 23, 1995. He is also number one based on publications in JAMS during the ten-year period 1986-1995. In an Editorial by Schlegelmilch (JIM, 11(1), 2003), Malhotra was ranked number one based on publications in the "International Marketing Review" from 1992 to 2002. He is also ranked number one based on publications in the "International Marketing Review" since its inception (1983) to 2003 (Table V, IMR, 22(4) (2005)). He has published more than 100 papers in major refereed journals, including the "Journal of Marketing Research," "Journal of Consumer Research," "Marketing Science," "Management Science," "Journal of Marketing," "Journal of Academy of Marketing Science," "Journal of Retailing," "Journal of Health Care Marketing," and leading journals in Statistics, Management Science, Information Systems, and Psychology. Inaddition, he has also published numerous refereed articles in the proceedings of major national and international conferences. Several articles have received best paper research awards. He was Chairman, Academy of Marketing Science Foundation, 1996-1998, and was President, Academy of Marketing Science, 1994-1996, and Chairman, Board of Governors, 1990-1992. He is the Founding Editor of "Review of Marketing Research" and served as an Associate Editor of "Decision Sciences" for 18 years and has served as Section Editor, Health Care Marketing Abstracts, "Journal of Health Care Marketing," Also, he serves on the Editorial Board of eight (8) journals. His book entitled "Marketing Research: An Applied Orientation," Fourth Edition, was published by Prentice-Hall, Inc in 2004. This book has been translated into Chinese, Spanish, Russian, Portuguese, Hungarian, and French. In addition to the six translations, this book also has several English editions including North American, International, European, and Australia & New Zealand. The book has received widespread adoption at both the graduate and undergraduate levels with more than 144 schools using it in the USA. His book, "Basic Marketing Research: A Decision-Making Approach," Second Edition, was published by Prentice Hall in 2005. Dr. Malhotra has consulted for business, non-profit and government organizations in the USA and abroad and has served as an expert witness in legal and regulatory proceedings. He has special expertise in data analysis and statistical methods. He is the winner of numerous awards and honors for research, teaching, and service to theprofession, including the Academy of Marketing Science, Outstanding Marketing Teaching Excellence Award, 2003. Dr. Malhotra is a member and Deacon, First Baptist Church, Atlanta. He lives in the Atlanta area with his wife Veena, and children Ruth and Paul.

First time rental

I haven't rented a book in the past so this is my first experience, but I think comments regarding the books condition would be a good idea, like in the seller's marketplace. The book was listed as being in good condition, but I was not expecting to see a whole chapter with highlighting. I might have chosen a different copy had I known, as I do not like to study with someone else's highlighting and notes.

Great Six Sigma Roadmap

To non-believers, Six Sigma often seems to be a valhalla, inhabited by a mythic warrior caste (Black Belts) who communicate in a language few can devine.

Linsenmann and Harry take the mystery out of a Six Sigma deployment. They give real life examples with real life people to show how Six Sigma transformed the DuPont company.

This book does not dwell on p values or r squared correlation factors. And that is a good thing, since the specific tools of Six Sigma have been addressed in many other forums. Instead,the book addresses the more difficult question of how do you change the culture of a large organization to embrace Six Sigma. It addresses the organizational changes necessary for success and how DuPont in particular made those changes.

About the Author
Ilona Carneiro is a lecturer in infectious disease epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). She is a malaria researcher with substantial experience in teaching, developing and organising epidemiology courses.

Natasha Howard is a research fellow at LSHTM. She is a researcher on health in conflict-affected settings and an experienced distance learning course developer, organiser and teacher.

Excellent introduction to Epidemiology

Having no previous experience or education in Epidemiology was not a problem with this wonderful resource. I was enrolled in Intro to Epidemiology via Distance Learning and was nervous about having limited access to tutors. The text breaks down complicated Epidemiology principles, terms and equations into a simple format understandable to anyone willing to take the time. Numerous real-life examples abound in the book and keep the reading interesting. I can't recommend it enough. Knowledgable and experienced authors make this a great introductory text.

All three techxorist books

An incredible compilation of our current level of computer technology, belief in the destruction of our species, and survival of a few based on new and evolving use of all sorts of technology, and our integration with AI. If our future looks like this, then better to survive as the strong, or die as our multitudes. Mr Barnes has spelled out what happens to each group quite well. More, give me more Mr Barnes.

Brilliant conclusion(?) to the Techxorcist Series!

Annihilation Point combines a good, solid, dystopian sci-fi rollick with an insightful and seemingly effortless peek into the inner-workings of human and social consciousness. These intelligent layers of theme based in morality, loyalty, guilt, regret, love, and sacrifice, are so transparently wrought into the fiber of the story that I often found myself reacting, both physically and emotionally, to an otherwise straight forward plot line. You know it’s a good book when you have to put it down for a moment to get your heart rate under control! With a healthy dose of both joy and tragedy, an often poetic and sometimes startling style of writing, and head-spinning plot twists, Colin F Barnes will keep you engaged in Book 3 of the Techxorcist series from start to finish. (If you have not already read Books 1 & 2 in this series you will definitely want to start there... they will be WELL worth your time.) Having just finished the series, I am already feeling a sense of withdrawal for these thoroughly developed characters and for Barnes words in my head. Luckily the author appears to have left open the possibility for a future addition or two to this excellent “trilogy”!
